Artillery battery of Mt. Campeon and Faeit
Mount Campeon and Mount Faeit, 759 and 734 metres high, dominate the outlet of the Torre Valley in the Julian Prealps. They were fortified as part of the “Middle Tagliamento” fortress system, behind the fortified complex of Monte Bernadia.
Starting from the Roccolo del Postino path between Montenars and Flaipano, the military road makes it easy to reach the saddle and summit of Campeon, where the ruins of a stone barracks, the 1909 ammunition shelter and the barbette platform for four 149 mm cast-iron guns emerge. Continuing westward and following the signs, visitors can easily reach the platform and shelters set up on Mount Faeit, as well as the “Fontana dai Soldâts”, bearing the inscription of the 2nd Sappers Engineers Regiment and recently restored.
The ridge of Mount Faeit is also worth visiting for the splendid panoramic view it offers over the Friulian plain.
