Artillery battery of Mt. Pocivalo
Monte Pocivalo is one of the peaks forming the Monte Bernadia massif near the Torre and Cornappo valleys.
On this height, in the years before the Great War, a permanent battery position was installed in support of the nearby Monte Lonza Fort.
Today visitors can still see the gun platform, the ammunition storage rooms, the barracks for the artillerymen and the access military road. The position is well preserved and can be reached in about half an hour on foot from the square in front of Monte Lonza Fort, following a path that leads east towards Pocivalo.
How to get there
Take the A23 motorway and exit at Gemona/Osoppo, then continue along the SS13 state road towards Tarcento/Udine. Once you reach the municipality of Magnano in Riviera, turn left at the traffic lights onto the SR356 regional road “di Cividale” towards Tarcento. In the town centre, turn right into Via Angelo Angeli and continue to the bridge over the Torre River, following the signs for Sedilis and then those for Monte Bernadia.
