Multimedia Exhibition “Lasciapassare / Prepustnica”

Gorizia, Isonzo Karst and Collio Museums and exhibitions

Inside the historic border guard house at the Rafut Border Crossing, one of the symbolic sites along the border established by the Paris Peace Treaties, visitors can explore the multimedia exhibition “Lasciapassare / Prepustnica”.

The exhibition traces the history of the Gorizia area from the beginning of the twentieth century to the end of the Cold War, with particular attention to the everyday lives of the people who lived in these lands. In the outdoor courtyard, numerous historical photographs accompanied by information panels illustrate the events that shaped this territory from the early twentieth century through to the post-war period. Inside the former border house, the multimedia exhibition offers an immersive experience. In the first room, photographs and historical footage, separated by a white line, present both perspectives on the border: the Italian and the Yugoslav one. In the second room, visitors can see and handle several objects that became symbols of the frontier and of crossing it – including a packet of cigarettes, a customs officer’s signaling paddle, and the indispensable border pass (Lasciapassare/Prepustnica) – while discovering their stories through engaging video interviews.
