Permanent Exhibition "Forni Avoltri in the Great War"
The small municipality of Forni Avoltri, in Carnia, just a few kilometres from Cadore and the Austrian border, has hosted since 2008 a permanent exhibition on the Great War in the upper Degano Valley, fought on the front formed by the surrounding peaks—Mount Coglians, Navagiust, Avanza and Chiadenis—and the Cacciatoi, Valle Inferno, Giramondo and Volaia passes.
Inside the exhibition, housed on the second floor of the Palazzo Museale, visitors can see a wide range of objects, relics and war remains found and collected in these places. Particularly interesting are postcards and photographs from the period documenting the lives of soldiers at the front and local inhabitants during the First World War. A tunnel position with bunk beds, originally discovered on Mount Navagiust in 2007, has also been reconstructed.
