B-KG1 Bovec (Plezzo) - Trenta

Walk of Peace
Linear route Scenic Cultural/historical interest Flora

A not too complex stage rich in both natural and cultural beauties that runs similarly to the Alpe Adria Trail along the Soča (Isonzo) Trail.

A predominantly naturalistic stage characterizes this section where the emerald waters of the Soča blend with the unspoiled expanse of the Triglavski narodni park, the only national park in Slovenia. Continuing along this route, the hiker will have the opportunity to cross it. Indeed, gradually ascending towards Trenta, among the mountain slopes of the Julian Alps, forests, green pastures, and breathtaking views, the hiker immerses in an environment where culture, tradition, and traces of the Great War still present in the area seem to quietly speak so as not to disturb a splendidly unspoiled nature.

Author's tip

Near Bovec, on the slope of Mount Svinjak is the Čelo Open-Air Museum of the Great War.

In the Lepena Valley are the remains of a church dedicated to the victims of the "Planina Zagreben" sector.

In Trenta, the Cross-Border Ecoregion of the Julian Alps Visitor Center and the Trenta Museum are interesting.

Directions

The route starts from Bovec, near which are the Ravelnik and Čelo Open-Air Museums, and heads towards the confluence between the Koritnica and Soča rivers near Vodenca. Then it proceeds along the right bank of the Soča up to the Kršovec Gorge where, after crossing the river, the separation with stage 2 occurs. Stage 2 continues towards Mount Golobar, while B-KG 1 turns left after the bridge, following the river to the magnificent area of the Great Soča River Gorge. From here, the route continues along the Soča Trail to the homonymous settlement, interesting both for the Austro-Hungarian cemetery behind the Church of St. Joseph and for the church itself, frescoed by Slovenian painter Tone Kralj. From Soča, the path climbs along a valley towards Trenta, arriving at Dom Trenta, home to the Julian Alps Ecoregion infopoint and the Triglav National Park Museum.
