Exhibition rooms of the Julia Alpine Brigade Command
Inside the Giovanni di Prampero Barracks in Udine, headquarters of the “Julia” Alpine Brigade Command, several memorabilia rooms have been set up, where a rich display of materials retraces the history of the Alpini corps from its foundation to the present day.
The route opens with a visit to the shrine dedicated to the Gold Medals, to those fallen in war and in humanitarian missions abroad, housed in the first room.
The room devoted to the Great War preserves relics of various kinds, including original weapons and uniforms, the reproduction of a trench, a selection of valuable historical photographs and the meticulous reconstruction of a high-altitude officers’ shelter.
The room devoted to the Second World War includes an in-depth section on the Russian campaign, helping visitors understand how harsh soldiers’ living conditions were in those lands. On display are a selection of original uniforms, equipment and weapons, as well as valuable historical photographs. Of particular importance is the uniform worn by Gold Medal for Military Valour Renato Del Din at the time of his death on 25 April 1944, preserved at the centre of the room.
There are also areas dedicated to the Ethiopian War, post-war military training and the Alpini’s contribution to reconstruction after the 1976 earthquake. Finally, another space in the barracks is often used for temporary exhibitions, which can be visited before or after the guided tour of the memorabilia rooms.
