K-C4 Castelmonte/Stara gora - Cividale del Friuli/Čedad - San Pietro al Natisone/Špiètar

Walk of Peace
Linear route Scenic Refreshment stops available Cultural/historical interest Insider tip

One of the longest stages of the entire Walk of Peace, extremely rich in history and culture, well beyond the period of the Great War.

A long and extremely interesting stage both from a historical and cultural point of view and from a landscape perspective. Cividale del Friuli, a historic city declared UNESCO heritage since 2012, located as a central point within this long stage, deserves a stop that might lead the hiker to choose to split this route into two different days. By doing so, the hiker would have the opportunity to allow time, otherwise rather short, to fully enjoy a visit to this charming town. Considered a small gem of Friuli, capital of the first Lombard Duchy in Italy, Cividale del Friuli reveals itself as a city rich in monuments, museums, and very well-preserved historical and archaeological sites that can give great satisfaction to all kinds of visitors. The Natisone/Nediške Doline valleys, with the river running between mountainous ridges, will further enhance the route's charm.

Author's tip

Given the length and richness of the stage, it is advisable to divide it into two with a stop in Cividale for an in-depth visit to the city.
