Osiride Brovedani House Museum

Trieste and Trieste Karst Museums and exhibitions

Osiride Brovedani, known in his hometown as “Mr Fissan”, was an entrepreneur and philanthropist whose personal story is closely intertwined with that of Twentieth-century Trieste: a story of initiative and success, but also one marked by the tragic experience of deportation.

The Osiride Brovedani House Museum is a place where documents, photographs, personal belongings and multimedia installations offer a portrait of this multifaceted figure. The exhibition traces the main stages of his life: his childhood, his work as a journalist, his entrepreneurial career linked to Fissan, his passion for photography and mountaineering, and finally the establishment of the Foundation in accordance with the wishes expressed in the will of his wife, Fernanda Brovedani.

A significant section of the museum is dedicated to Brovedani’s experience of deportation: first arrested and imprisoned at the Coroneo prison, then transferred to the concentration camps of Buchenwald, Dora and finally Bergen-Belsen. Original photographs, letters sent from the concentration camp, the diary he kept during his imprisonment and his deportee jacket provide a powerful testimony that encourages reflection and remembrance.
