Trincea delle Frasche
About two kilometres from Sagrado, visitors can explore the so-called “Area delle Battaglie” (Battle Area), the zone where the first Italian attacks against the Habsburg line were launched in the summer of 1915.
The area is scattered with communication trenches, trenches, fortifications and Austro-Hungarian and Italian structures. Among all these remains, the Trincea delle Frasche stands out as one of the greatest obstacles for Italian soldiers during their first assaults. It was dug by the Habsburg army in the first months of the war and was lost only at the end of 1915. Its name comes from the military cunning of the Hungarian soldiers, who used branches to camouflage it and make it less visible to observers and aerial reconnaissance.
At this very spot, on 23 October 1915, Filippo Corridoni, leader of revolutionary syndicalism and a personal friend of Benito Mussolini, was killed.
The remains visible today are mostly fortifications built by the Italians between the autumn of 1916 and the first months of 1917. Along its course one encounters a military gallery that ensured connections with other lines in the area, in particular with the nearby XV Bersaglieri Dolina.
